Dryas octopetala (Muntain day's-ee) is an arctic-alpine flouerin plant in the faimily Rosaceae. It is a smaa prostrate evergreen subshrub furmin lairge colonies. The specific epithet octopetala derives frae the Greek octo (aicht) an petalon (petal), referrin tae the aicht petals o the flouer, an unuisual nummer in the Rosaceae, whaur five is the normal nummer. However, flouers wi up tae 16 petals an aa occur naiturally.
